Chapter Fourteen

Valentina

Bishop walked me to work alone today. Juggling three mates wasn’t difficult, but there were sometimes holes in the system. He found me in school and asked if he could escort me alone—said he needed a little time with me.

The others totally understood. We talked about everything and I mean, everything.

We left early and held hands on the way. He wanted to have dinner with me. I craved one-on-one time with him as well, with all of them, but there were only so many hours in the day, with school and working. One day, there would be more time for us but for now, everything was hectic and wild.

When I got to the bar, Onyx picked on me about not having an entourage escort me to work, but she stopped talking once I brought up Raven and Asher. I also told her that I could make up a song on the fly about her situation and belt it at the top of my lungs if she wished.

Onyx didn’t really want to be my cousin anymore.

It happened.

We were serving drinks and hustling the hell out of things when Jeremy came in. He was dressed in regular clothes. On the nights when he worked, he usually wore his badass leather jacket because he claimed it demanded respect.

Jeremy was a trip once he stopped following me around like a dog in heat.

“Hey, girls, I heard something tonight,” he said, coming behind the bar. Josephine came out of the back. I swore that woman knew when something was up even when she was nowhere near said event.

“What did you hear?” Onyx said, stopping what she was doing. There were a few groans from the customers as she put the bottles down, but, one middle finger later, they shut their traps. They weren’t willing to push her too far. She had the ability to tweak their drinks in less-than-desirable ways.

“I have a friend, a cheetah shifter, who hangs out on the…other side of town. Likes fae females.”

I dry-heaved. “Other side of town, as in the one with the jackass wizard and his fae people?”

Jeremy smiled. “That’s the one. One of the fae was asked to come to a gathering in the next town over. Small town. Harrisville. Anyway, my friend went, thinking it was going to be an orgy because fae and their orgies is apparently a thing, but, instead, it was a recruitment thing. And guess who was recruiting.”

Jeremy was out of breath the whole time he spoke.

“My father,” Onyx said, her tone ominous.

“Yeah. Your father. Gods, he didn’t travel far, did he?”

Jeremy had come in with good information, but the fact my uncle was still gunning for my life doused me with cold water.

“Does he have an army? Was there anything else the dude said?” My gaze floated to Bishop who was already on his way over. I knew his wolf would’ve sensed my discomfort, my anxiety.

Plus, no matter how much I was fully and completely mated, after what happened with Jeremy sniffing around me, Bishop would never like him being around.
